The VAIE project was completed in 2000

Voluntary Agreements - Implementation and Efficiency, is a research project focussing on the implementation process, the efficiency of Voluntary Agreements (VA’s). The project will improve the understanding of the entire process from conclusion of the VA to implementation and final outcome. The VA’s treated in this project have goals concerning energy issues: energy savings, reduction of CO2 emissions, etc.

Five research institutes or universities are participating Armines - Cerna; France, University of Lund; Sweden, University of Utrecht; Holland, Wuppertal Institute; Germany, AKF; Denmark. The project is co-ordinated by the AKF. 12 persons will be involved in the project spending a total of 7 man years in the programme over two years.

The overall aims of the project are to

  • improve the understanding of the functioning of VA’s
  • uncover under which conditions VA’s can be expected to achieve environmental targets in an efficient way
  • identify VA best-practices
  • give recommendations on how to improve the policy mix used to promote energy efficiency and CO2 reductions in industry
