It is crucial for the retention of manufacturing industry in Denmark that more young people obtain a vocational qualification and then desire to continue into higher education. The need is for a graduate workforce with practical experience of work processes and product creation. Among the study’s findings are: that young people lack knowledge of the many higher-education and career opportunities that a vocational qualification opens to them, that vocational colleges should do more to stimulate young people who have the potential for higher education, that the transition from vocational education and training to higher education needs to be facilitated by means of collaboration, and that the financial barriers to higher education should be reduced.
