This study looks at what it is that characterises those upper secondary schools that “succeed” the most. In this connection, “schools that succeed” is taken to mean those that are particularly successful at achieving good pupil leaving grades and at preventing drop-out. Qualitative studies were carried out at eight upper secondary schools. The study can serve as a source of ideas and debate in all upper secondary schools on how to create a good working and educational environment that will foster good results in terms of pupil grades and pupil retention.
