This study sheds light on mobility and career paths among social care and health care workers in the Danish labour market. It also contributes insights into measures for retaining social care and health care workers and limiting the shortage of such personnel in the longer term. The results indicate that almost a third of social care and health care workers change workplaces within the space of only a year. This rate is significantly higher than the general trend in the Danish labour market. The workers primarily switch to a different employer within the public sector. The study indicates that increased employee welfare and a well-functioning psycho-social working environment are crucial to worker retention for these occupations. This can be realised by e.g. measures to reduce physical strain, opportunity for achieving high standards in task performance and a constructive approach to conflicts at the workplace.
