The Role of and Limitations on District Councillors

This report analyses the factors that are relevant to an understanding of the role of district councillors in Denmark and the limitations within which they work. It looks firstly at the composition of district councils, how councillors use their time, and what causes them to withdraw from local politics. Secondly, it looks at the forms taken by the council work process and at relations with the administrative departments. Thirdly, it focuses on what gives councillors influence. The consequences for councillors of the local government reorganisation in 2007 is a recurrent theme throughout the report.
