The work of the co-ordinating team was evaluated in November-December 2008. The co-ordinating team is a body set up by Ishøj municipality representing the Centre for Children and Education, the Family Centre and the Centre for Culture and Leisure. In addition to their own individual areas of responsibility, the three centres are responsible for co-ordinating crime prevention.
The purpose of the evaluation was to make recommendations strengthening crime prevention. This was done as follows:
- Interviewing young people to ascertain whether the activities made available by the municipality corresponded to their needs and wishes
- Collecting crime statistics for Ishøj compared with the country as a whole
- Hearing the opinions of the Panel of Citizens, a group of 915 local residents, on the team’s efficacy at preventing crime
- Using questionnaires and self-evaluation days to assess the effect of a) street teams, b) formalised co-operation between schools, social services and the police and c) 365-day open youth clubs on the prevention of crime.
