Utilisation of qualified labour in Danish public administration

During the last few decades Danish public administration has been fundamentally renewed with New Public Management as a dominant way of thinking. The report shows how – in recent years – a pronounced professionalisation of the public sector has taken place together with this modernisation process. Thus, the educational level has been constantly increasing among the employees in the central administrative units at state as well as municipal level. Furthermore, a specialisation of the administrative work in public institutions has taken place. This type of professional administration made its entry into the hospital sector a long time ago, and now this also happens among schools and day-care institutions.
