The aim of this report is to describe the extent to which Danish municipalities have succeeded in helping recipients of sickness benefits and social assistance to move from the benefit scheme to employment rather than to other benefit schemes, and to analyse the extent of any variation among the municipalities. One of the main conclusions is that a little more than half the recipients of sickness benefits and a little less than half the recipients of social assistance find employment in the long or short term. The major part of the rest still receives public benefits. At the same time we see a weak trend that municipalities which succeed in reducing the number of benefit recipients in one scheme end up with more recipients in other benefit schemes.
The analyses are based on data from 1998 to 2002.
