This report examines the geographic mobility of refugees before and after the introduction of the new Danish Integration Act. The Integration Act, which was introduced on 1 January 1999, was one of the main elements of a new housing allocation policy, which meant, among other things, that the Danish Immigration Service was henceforth responsible for placing newly arrived refugees in the individual municipalities based on quotas. In addition, the refugees who were allocated housing were generally required to live in the allocation municipality for their entire three-year integration period to maintain the right to receive an introduction allowance. This report attempts to give an idea of the extent of the effect the introduction of the Integration Act has had on the movement patterns of refugees.
