Leena Eskelinen's research is centred on social work, occupational health and the elderly. The research on social work deals with the professional side of social work including the professional practice of the frontline staff and the effect of different kinds of effort on recipients of cash benefit, immigrants and elderly people. The research on the field of occupational health and safety includes for instance the psychosocial aspects at an individual and an organisatorial level. In the field of the elderly her research deals with employability of elderly workers as well as social and healthcare efforts towards senior citizens.
