AKF's research within municipal financing focuses both on the actual financing and equalisation system and on a series of payment and financing schemes in more specific fields.

Subsidy and equalisation systems

AKF looks at the consequences and challenges in the subsidy and equalisation system in connection with the structural reform. This is done on the basis of municipal and regional economic data and a regional economic model. One of the main questions about the amalgamation leads to geographical changing of means in the grants and equalisation system.

Payment and financing arrangements

The effect of different forms of payment and financing arrangements is also one of AKF's research areas. We for instance look at the effects in the field of health services and at the effects of the basic-rate model on the social efforts towards vulnerable children and young people. Here financial problems are linked up with studies of incentives, effectiveness, public-private interaction etc.
